The Big Boss Artist bio 2024, the year of the dragon, sees The Big Boss enter his 60th year. What’s the sensible thing to do when you turn 60? Well, put out an album of bangers obviously! The Big Boss’s 6th album “6 & Oh!” starts with the release of the single “Where’s The Party” on The Big Boss’s birthday, 13th March. Setting the tone for the album it kicks like a mule, throbs like a hammered thumb and has top line cheesy melodies… and features niece Maddie Byrne asking one of life’s most important questions…. Where’s the party!?
The Big Boss emerged from the Camden music scene of the late nineties when two friends, Martin Byrne & Martin Sawtell thought that both being born on Friday the 13th of March and a love of high energy music, dirty baselines and the good life was reason enough to collaborate. Equal influences of Fat Boy Slim and Iggy and the Stooges resulted in combining the raw energy of rock with the euphoric beats and melodies of dance music. They drifted apart in 2000 for no other reason than time marching on and life changing…
Fast forward to 2014, Martin B is at Beatherder festival celebrating his birthday, on the stage is Vitalic, the sound coming off the stage is weapons grade, crystal clear and cuts right through him. Martin has an epiphany and resolved there and then that The Big Boss would be reborn resulting in the lost album of 1998-2000 “Good Bad but not Evil” being released in 2015. The follow up, “The Return of The Big Boss” was released Dec 1st 2017. 2019 saw the release of “Kiss The Machine” and 2021’s “In Transit” was written on two 36 hour plane rides to NZ and back early 2020. 2023’s release “Inner Space” was a more inward looking affair with the same electronic beat and melody loveliness that has become The Big Boss sound.
The sound, the style?…..Future Retro
