Rum Thief is the alias of South Manchester based solo artist Jon Green with support from his band (Kieran Whitehouse – Lead guitar, Gary Long – Bass and Chris Hobbs – Drums).
The project began when Green, after playing as a drummer in bands for over ten years, decided to record some songs of his own.
Booking into Airtight Studio in Chorlton, Manchester he performed the drums, guitars, vocals and backing vocals to produce his first EP ‘Clouded Mind’. The titular lead track generated interest from media outlets across the North West and with the help of new band mates, Rum Thief secured shows at some of Manchester’s legendary venues and local festivals such as Band On The Wall, Night and Day Cafe, Ruby Lounge, Rebellion Rock Bar, Head For The Hills Festival and Blackthorn Music Festival.
Airplay on local and national radio followed the release of ‘Reach For The Weather Man’ Rum Thief’s second EP, which, characterized by Green’s keen ear for melody and his sharp observational lyrical content received much critical acclaim by the likes of Fred Perry ‘Sub Culture ‘ and many more. 2016 saw Rum Thief successfully headlining the Manchester Ritz and recording 3rd EP ‘Time To Make A Move ‘ at legendary Hackney Rd Studio, with producer Shuta Shinoda (Ghost Poet, Hot Chip).
Releasing the record in 2017 Rum Thief went on to perform at Manchester’s Sonder Festival and then headed out to perform his first European festival, Belgium’s ‘Day and Night Festival’. Rum Thief has now returned to work with Sugarhouse Music to record his most heavyweight single to date ‘Surmise’ Which will be released March 2018.
