Having spent the last months working with the likes of Cage The Elephant and Alex Da Kid, Kelsy Karter steps out today with new single “God Knows I’ve Tried” a searingly personal rock&roll track showcasing Kelsy Karter’s gorgeous vocal over a twanging guitar lead arrangement.
Speaking on the track, the New Zealand born, LA based artist states: “I’ve spent my whole life being rebellious and doing what people told me not to do. And when you have that kind of spirit, somebody always gets hurt. I guess “God Knows I’ve Tried” is just my apology letter in the form of a rock&roll ballad.”
Having picked up support from the likes of i-D, EW and KCRW on her early releases, “God Knows I’ve Tried” sees Karter moving away from the musical lane she felt pushed into and straight into rock&roll, the music she loves.

Citing influences like Queen, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, Karter mixes up a combination of a rebellious nature, a nomadic spirit and enormous talent to create a unique vibe. Karter’s unique vision takes her fans on a journey in a time machine through the great musical acts of an earlier era, seamlessly blending classic vibes with modern influences, creating a new kind of rock&roll. Kelsy says, “I want to be an artist that speaks to my generation. If you want a 50-year career then you have to be innovative and ahead of what’s next. The drum patterns and guitar tones on my record definitely veer toward those early Beatles/Stones vibes, but my stories and ideas will always move and grow with me in the modern world.”
