On 3.8.19, Verses Records released “Salad Days“, the third release from Richmond, VA indie rock artist Patrick Bates. The record is available via Bandcamp as both 140 gram white vinyl record and download, as well as digitally via iTunes, with streaming via Spotify and other major global sites. To kick off the full release, Bates also produced and premiered a music video for the track “New Deal“.
Patrick Bates is a singer/ songwriter and multi- instrumentalist from Richmond, Va. Self- taught, he began performing in the early 2000’s.
‘Salad Days’ draws from a decade of writing and recording, utilizing the skills of his local musical community in between tours as a musician and mix engineer (Bob Moses, Phantogram, Head and the Heart). The title is tongue-in- cheek; “It’s kind of an inside joke with myself. I am fully aware that many records share this title, and it is kind of a play on that. To me Salad Days represents the feeling of a time when things weren’t so serious.”
The six tracks all feature Ash Bruce (percussion) and Chris Dowhan (production) with additional strings, brass, and electronics.
Powerful rhythms and melodic syncopations drive this collection of rock songs, which will be available in a limited run of 12” white vinyl with custom full color inset.
Verses Records is a Washington DC based label, a collective of artists that formed on 1.1.16. We lean towards indie, electronic, neo-classical and ambient music . . . generally “music for music’s sake.”
“Salad Days” is our 19th release, which per Bates “is the culmination of over a decade of writing and recording. The title is kind of an inside joke with myself. I am fully aware that many records share this title, and it is kind of a play on that. To me “Salad Days” represents an earlier time, when I was young and things weren’t so serious.” After keeping up with this and performing both solo and with his band for over a decade, Bates decided that these recordings needed to be finished and taken to the stage. Look for extensive touring from Bates in the immediate future.
