“Wir Kellerkinder” is a book for children and adults alike and is about the Gothic scene in general and the Wave-Gotik-Treffen Festival in particular. The beautifully illustrated book will capture the characters, diversity and colourfulness of the Goth scene by depicting the real people involved. It is a charming and interesting alternative to the plethora of mainstream children’s books.
The book is Not for Profit and last week the initial Kickstarter campaign was launched privately to newsletter subscribers only. The first campaign reached 100% funding within three days. With every stretch goal reached more pages and illustrations will be added to the book.
The bilingual book will be a large format “wimmelbook” suitable for children aged 3 to 100 with thick pages crammed with characterful illustrations depicting people, bands, events, regulars and celebrities. The double-page spread scenes will depict the “Bändchenausgabe” in front of the main station, the midnight special at the Agra, the “Wonnemond” medieval festival at the Moritzbastei, the “Heidnische Dorf” at Torhaus Dölitz and many more.
All the illustrations will be lovingly crafted by german graphic designer and caricature artist Jan-Erik Mendel famously known as Gotikatur who’s work already includes many well known personalities from the goth and post-punk scene. The book will depict hundreds of characters all of which will represent real people from the Gothic scene worldwide making it the most authentic book covering the Wave-Gotik-Treffen to date.
“We want to show that it’s okay to be different and that being different doesn’t mean that people are any better or any worse than others. This book is for people who love the gothic scene and the WGT and who have kids or are still kids at heart themselves. There’s even the chance for people, families and friends to appear as illustrated characters in the book.”
– Christian Schaefer, Founder
The Kickstarter campaign will be launched to the general public on Wednesday 26th June 2019.
