Legendary Boston trio, Throwing Muses, return with an alternate take on popular album track ‘Bywater’; alongside announcing intimate solo live stream, ‘Halfway Home: Kristin Hersh of Throwing Muses’, that sees her perform music from her catalogue on 27th February via NoonChorus.
Originally appearing on the band’s much-praised recent album ‘Sun Racket’, Kristin Hersh wanted to re-examine the track and provide a new perspective on the song.
“I thought we should put it under a remix magnifying glass and ask people to listen again.”
‘Bywater’ is a parting gift to their beloved extended family member, and touring buddy, Freddie the fish.
Melodic and hypnotic, it’s ‘one of those songs that only she could write, simultaneously suggestive of time and climate, but also able to diffuse and refract itself through a blurred, hazy vision” The Wire
“Our goldfish, Freddie Mercury lived through dozens of tours, circling a pickle jar in the tour bus sink, and then died during a summer party in the Bywater neighborhood of New Orleans. We couldn’t bear to flush the little dude, so we each lit a candle to the memory of all teammates past instead. I guess people were peeing in the yard, I dunno, but the pile of red wax grew into a glowing shrine to lost others. By midnight, it had grown so big and bright that I had to hose it down, but that speaks to how much love we feel for the other side.”Kristin Hersh
New single ‘Bywater (Alternate Version)’ is released digitally and out now on Fire Records.
