After charting at number 3 in the rock charts with their debut single ‘Unchained’, York duo The Black Skies are releasing the eagerly awaited follow up ‘Save My Soul’ on 22nd July. The debut single caused quite a stir becoming single of the week on BBC Radio and gaining over 200,000 views on release on YouTube.
Save My Soul again has a deep rock and soul influence, but definitely includes elements of outlaw country mixed in for good measure.
Band members James Handley (Vocals) and Luke Falkingham (Guitar) formed the British rock/soul band in 2020 and describe their sound as a mix of melancholy rock and classic soul.
The band have caught the attention of some music industry royalty, and the new single has been mixed by world renowned record producer George Shilling whose credits include Some Might Say for Oasis, as well as Primal Scream, Blur and Ocean Colour Scene amongst many others.
‘Save My Soul’ is a questioning trip through the interpretation of what people consider as sin. Themes of sexuality, religion and guilt flow freely through the lyrics of ‘Save My Soul’, and it’s the perfect entry point for the unacquainted.
Hailing from York, UK, James Handley and Luke Falkingham met at school and both then worked behind a bar in York. The musicians quickly realised they were both influenced by the same genres of music and formed The Black Skies.
