Homeland is a groundbreaking visual album from I Am Fya that blends music, imagery, and storytelling to create a multi-sensory experience like no other. Rooted entirely in field recordings captured in Barbados, the music invites listeners on an emotional and immersive journey, exploring themes of identity, culture, and spiritual connection to land and ancestors.
The album took shape during an extended stay in Barbados at the height of the pandemic, when I Am
Fya returned to support her parents. Armed with a field recorder, she captured the sounds of her
environment — the beeps and bustle of a hospital waiting room, birdsong, crickets, the rattle of farm
machinery — layered with voices of a grandmother giving advice, a mother singing her favourite country song, and conversations with a spirited child.

From this collection of sounds, Homeland was created — a deeply atmospheric work where spaced-
out dub basslines and vocal harmonies soaked in heavy reverb co-exist with rhythmic, looped percussive instrumentation. The result is a raw and resonant sonic landscape that captivates and transports us to the humidity of the Caribbean.
